Owen Brandt

Research Editor at Investor Loan Compass. I write the guides here and run the independent Rate and Terms Survey.

My work focuses on one thing: the borrower's side of investor financing. How investors can read a deal the way a lender does, choose the right loan, and avoid the financing mistakes that quietly cost the most. I spend my time reading lender programs and term sheets, gathering pricing data, and turning it into plain guidance that does not depend on selling you anything.

Why a pen name

Owen Brandt is a pen name, and I think you deserve to know that plainly. It is the consistent editorial voice for this site's research. What matters more than a name is the standard: every guide here is built from primary sources, lender disclosures, and the survey data, and it carries no claim of being licensed advice. I am a researcher and writer, not a lender, mortgage broker, or financial advisor.

The standing rules I write by

  • No lender pays to be included or described a certain way. Where a link earns a commission, we disclose it.
  • Pricing claims come from the Rate and Terms Survey and published lender sources, presented as ranges, not single best-case numbers.
  • Guidance is neutral and borrower-first, because the site earns its keep by being useful, not by steering you to one lender.

The book

I wrote The Lender's Lens, a full field guide to financing investment property the way an underwriter sees it. It is the long-form version of the method behind this site.
